Taxis and traffic rules

In South Africa we have traffic rules - and then we have Taxis!

Taxis with no rules - or is it maybe an unwritten set of rules that only applies to Taxis?

Their rule book goes something like this:
  1. If the traffic light goes red - go like hell - you will still make it and the other road users will wait for you out of respect.
  2. If the traffic light goes green - ag who cares when it goes green as soon as you see it goes amber for the cross traffic - go like hell. Other people can wait until the light is green - and by that time you are far ahead.
  3. Yellow lines - they are not made for emergency traffic - they are there so you can easily pass all other motorists stupid enough to sit and wait in the queue. No queue for taxis - we go like mad in the yellow lanes. Taxis are emergency traffic!
  4. If you need to stop - do not pull out of the road so that other road users can go past. Then you will have to catch up with them again. No stop in the middle of the road so they can wait. you have to stop - so can they.
  5. Do not worry about Traffic police. They will not catch you. And if they do - just slip him a quick R100 and off you go. They need the money.
  6. Blow your horn as far as you go - it makes a nice sound and people do not need quiet - your passengers are more important.

And so we can carry on. Wonderful race - Taxi drivers.
